Spring Finally

Downy Woodpecker among Lichen

We took advantage of the (finally) warmer weather and spent a week camping at Silver Springs State Park. In spite of two days of record breaking heat (93 degrees in early March!), most of the week held the mild weather we expect for our late winter/early spring. Our site faced a stand of trees, and the moon in the middle the one early morning sent me back for my camera.

We took several walks and heard and saw many birds, the Tufted Titmouse and Downy Woodpecker seemed to be everywhere. I saw this leaf growing out of a knot in the tree, and the rough texture of the brown bark really made it stand out. I’m trying to expand my nature photography from mostly birds, animals, butterflies, and insects to the interesting parts of nature that don’t move around so much…
